Subway Funding Passes Senate Committee Vote

The $51 million for the Westside Subway Extension is still in the 'America Fast Forward' bill by the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa praised a committee vote in the U.S. Senate on Friday that "[kept] intact the $51 million for the Westside Subway Extension."

“Thanks to the hard work of Senator Feinstein, today the Senate Appropriations Committee took another positive step towards getting Los Angeles the funding it needs to build a more robust transit network and put thousands of Angelenos back to work,” Villaraigosa said.

Earlier this week in his annual , Villaraigosa stressed the need to expedite several regional transportation projects, including the Westside Subway Extension. He proposed a vote to make the half-cent sales tax that is funding and expediting those projects a permanent one.

"I spoke with the Senator [Feinstein] today and we agree through passage of America Fast Forward, and by focusing on transportation infrastructure, we can get our economy back on track, add more than 1 million badly-needed jobs to localities and deliver Americans the transit systems and highways they need and deserve," Villaraigosa said.
