LAFD Knocks Down House Fire in Bel Air

A firefighter is taken to Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

A Los Angeles firefighter took ill while battling a fire on the second floor of a house in the hills above Bel Air Sunday.

One man at the house was detained by police, when officers said he was aggressive towards firefighters and had an altered level of consciousness. Arson investigators were also called in.

The fire broke out just after 8 a.m. at 1553 N. Roscomare Road, and firefighters had the fire within 23 minutes of their arrival, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles City Fire Department.

Humphrey said someone inside was able to escape from the home prior to the arrival of firefighters. Police and arson investigators were summoned to the scene.

The fire burned two rooms on the second floor with some extension into the attic, according to firefighters at the scene.

Paramedics took the ill firefighter, in good condition, to the Reagan Medical Center at UCLA.

A man was being detained at the Los Angeles Police Department's West Los Angeles station for creating a "disturbance" to firefighters who were trying to put out the house fire, said a police officer who would not disclose his name.

"For whatever reason, he became aggressive towards the fire department. I can't speculate why," the officer said. "He's being detained at the (police) station."
