Spring Commuting 101

Spring has finally sprung! We can officially put away our heavy sweaters and scarves, and break out our short sleeves for the season!

Spring has finally sprung! We can officially put away our heavy sweaters and scarves, and break out our short sleeves for the season!

With the change to a warmer season, there are now many more commuting options available to us that the winter weather may not have permitted.  Biking is always more enjoyable in the spring and summer months, or walking to your nearest public transportation stop can add some much-needed relaxation before heading in for a stressful day at the office.

Whether you’re traveling by bike, car, or taking public transportation, we here at Commute 90067 have compiled some helpful tips and tricks for Century City commuters to keep in mind while traveling to and from work this season.

Prepare for spring showers

Nothing will ruin your day faster than gridlock on a rainy day.  As drivers are rightfully driving more cautiously with wetter roads, be sure to check the weather report and leave your home earlier to accommodate for traffic on rainy days.

If you’re biking, be sure to pack your work clothes in waterproof packaging and pedal with caution on slick roads.  If you rideshare or take public transportation, always be sure to keep rain gear packed and ready in your workbag.

Spring clean your car or bike

As you start spring-cleaning your apartment, also make sure your bike or vehicle is ready and safe to hit the roads again this spring.

For your car, make sure your tire treads are in good shape for wet road conditions, and check your car’s weather-stripping--have it replaced if you find cracks or breaks.

Clean your bike to make sure there’s no debris or dirt around your brakes or gear system, and make sure to have your tires, rims, and brakes checked, repaired, or replaced before hitting the roads.

Start a carpool or rideshare to avoid spring and summer traffic

With the increased number of vacationers and tourists hitting the roads in the spring and summer months, this is best time to start a carpool with co-workers who live nearby or to join an existing rideshare program through your employer or through Commute 90067.  By buddying up, you’ll be able to zip through traffic in the HOV lanes, cutting down on your commute time!

Whatever mode of transportation you use to get to work and home this spring, stay safe and enjoy the ride. Please follow Commute 90067 on Twitter @Commute90067 for current road conditions, Century City news and daily tips.
