Your Weekend: Learning to Cook, Exploring the Past

Culinary classroom offers courses on bread-making and romantic cooking; cultural center provides experiences in archaeology and sheds light on Jewish history

Dig it! Archaeology Adventures 
Where: Skirball Cultural Center, 2701 N Sepulveda Blvd.
When: During museum hours on Saturday, June 16 and Sunday, June 17
Event: "Come to the Skirball Cultural Center and experience Skirball's simulated outdoor archaeological dig and field laboratory. Slip on an archaeologist’s vest, sift and sort through sand to find hidden ancient artifacts, weigh and examine your findings, analyze clues, and work with archaeology staff to piece together the puzzles of the past. All ages are welcome and children must be accompanied by an adult."
Cost: $10.00 general, $7.00 seniors 65+ and full-time students, $5 children 2-12, free for Skirball members and children under 2.

Bread Baking Made Easy! Baking Class
Where: Chef Eric's Culinary Classroom, 2366 Pelham Ave.
When: Saturday, June 16, 9:00 a.m.
Event: "Learn how to make the oldest food known to mankind.  We cover techniques to produce quick baked goods for everyday meals and special dinners.  At the end of class, sample your breads right out of the oven, watch the steam rise and the butter slowly melt as we pair with jellies and jams."
Cost: $90.00

Skirball's "Journeys of the Jewish People" Tour
Where: Skirball Cultural Center, 2701 N Sepulveda Blvd.
When: During museum hours on Saturday, June 16 and Sunday, June 17
Event: "Come to the Skirball Cultural Center and tour the Skirball’s core exhibition, Visions and Values, and explore how the Jewish people have learned from and contributed to the many cultures they have encountered while retaining their essential values and beliefs."
Cost: $10.00 general, $7.00 seniors 65+ and full-time students, $5 children 2-12, free for Skirball members and children under 2.

Couples Romantic Cooking
Where: Chef Eric's Culinary Classroom, 2366 Pelham Ave.
When: Saturday, June 16, 7:00 p.m.
Event: "Want to make a special dinner with your friend or spouse?  Celebrating a special occasion?  We’ve created a Cooking Party Atmosphere – there is a brief lecture and more instruction is in the kitchen as you prepare your shared meals.  Bring a nice bottle of wine to enjoy at the end of class to make this a true romantic night out as an alternative to the predictable dinner and a movie."
Cost: $200.00
