Movie Theaters Lose Power Thursday in Westwood Village

Shops and two movie theaters lose power for more than five hours Thursday.

Sections of Westwood Village went without power for more than five hours Thursday night, including the Regency Bruin Theatre, which was scheduled to show a 10 p.m. premiere of the final installment of The Twilight Saga.

The outage was reported at 1:30 p.m. in an underground utility vault that was seen smoking, said Department of Water and Power spokeswoman MaryAnne Pierson. She said the exact cause was unknown.

Shops and restaurants, including California Pizza Kitchen and Starbucks, on Broxton Avenue between Weyburn Avenue and Le Conte Avenues appeared to be impacted. The Regency Village was also dark, but the Landmark theater, one block south, still had its lights on.
