Why go: Purchase used books, both hardcover and paperback, and other materials at great bargain prices. There will also be DVDs and videos to buy. You can never have enough books in your collection.

Why go: Come to the Billy Wilder Theater for a double feature screening of “Vesna,” directed by František Čap and “100% Slovenian,” directed by Hanna Slaks. These screenings are part of the Slovenia Begs to Differ series, curated by Vera Mijojlic, president of the South East European Film Festival, and Shannon Kelley.

Why go: Come to the Royce Hall auditorium and experience the “Distant Worlds: Music From Final Fantasy," featuring music, video and still images of Final Fantasy with composer Nobuo Uematsu. Also joining is conductor Arnie Roth, the Distant Worlds Philharmonic Orchestra and special soloists.

Why go: Bring the kids to the Barnes & Noble, at the Westside Pavilion Mall, for a fun and great story time that they will enjoy.

5. First Annual Emergency Preparedness Event

Where/When: , 10250 Santa Monica Blvd, Los Angeles, 90067. Sunday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m.

Why go: Learn about staying safe in an emergency from local firefighters, police and the American Red Cross. Los Angeles City Councilmember Paul Koretz will also be in attendance with other local agencies. The presentation will be near the children's play area. This is a free and family-friendly event.
