'Top Chef' Contestant to Lead New Century City Restaurant

Century City restaurant Hinoki & the Bird will open in late December.

Hinoki & the Bird will soon open in Century City, with future "Top Chef" contestant Kuniko Yagi as chef, the Los Angeles Times reported.

David Myers' restaurant, slated to open in late December at the Century, will spotlight "the flavors of Southeast Asia and Japan," according to the Times.

Yagi will compete in the next season of Bravo's popular "Top Chef," which begins Nov. 7. Yagi worked in finance in Japan before moving to Los Angeles, where she landed her first job as a noodle house server, according to her "Top Chef" bio. She also served at Myers' L.A. restaurant, Comme Ça.
