One of San Francisco's sandwich restaurants is calling on fans to help the eatery open up a Westwood Village location.
Ike's Place, a popular sandwich joint with nine Bay Area locations and a wide variety of sandwiches with names like the Captain Kirk, Backstapper, Green Goblin and Ugly Owl, tweeted and posted to Facebook last week, asking fans to "help expedite a So Cal Ike's."
The chain's hope, according to the Facebook page, is to move into a spot on Westwood Boulevard currently rented to a Subway restaurant. Subway's lease has expired and is not being renewed, according to the Facebook post.
Do you want to see Ike's go into the space where Subway is in (their lease just expired & they will not be renewing)? Well, the landlord hasn't heard of Ike's, so if you want to help expedite a So Cal Ike's, holler at the landlord's representative, Anat, and let her know how awesome we are.
According to Zagat blog writer Lesley Balla, Ike's Place owner Ike Shehadeh "met with investors and looked at locations (in L.A.) last year."

Love & Sandwiches, Ike
I’m assuming a Southern California menu (http://ilikeikesplace.com/menu) would favor names of L.A. athletes/teams in lieu of one's associated with Bay Area teams. Sure, the restaurant business can be treacherous with no guarantee of success. In Westwood Village, some restaurant closures have been surprising, others too predictable. That said if Ike’s Place opens a location in Westwood, they will quickly become one of those iconic places, like Diddy Riese, that people line up for from near and far. Order some stanchion poles and get in line to welcome Ike’s to the neighborhood!
