Update: Man Dies in Century City Trench Accident

Updated at 11:00 a.m.—A man found unconscious in a trench Friday morning in Century City has died.

About 50 firefighters responded to a call at about 9:30 a.m. of an unconscious man who was possibly an employee of a private plumbing company, found in a 20-foot-deep, eight-feet-long and two-feet-wide hole, according to Erik Scott of the LAFD.

The victim was not under dirt and there was no collapse of the hole, which has shoring in place, with asphalt above and hard dirt around it.

Scott speculated the victim may have been injuries caused by electrical current, but noted in a separate statement the manner of death will be determined by the Los Angeles Coroner.

Cal OSHA and the mayor's crisis response team were en route to the site.
