Debbie Allen Dance Academy The Hot Chocolate Nutcracker

The Hot Chocolate Nutcracker is Debbie Allen's hilarious and culturally rich take on the perennial Christmas Classic.

The story follows the traditional, with a few changes in name, until it's time for the MOUSE KING to do battle with the HOT CHOCOLATE NUTCRACKER. The Mouse King/ HARVEY (a real New Yorker) refuses to repeat the same old tired story where "The Nutcracker comes alive, we do battle and lose". Harvey decides to organize the mice to protest and that's where all the fun begins. "What are we Mice or Men?" Harvey and his two sidekicks, Schmink and Buckey, take us on a journey that lands in Fairyland, Candy Cane Land, The Jungles of the Suriname, China, Russia and New Orleans/Jazzland.

With an original score by Arturo Sandoval, Tena Clark, Mariah Carey, Chau-Ging and James Ingram, The Chocolate Nutcracker offers a fresh new twist, taking the audience on an unforgettable journey, all the while presenting new dance styles to this time old tale - hip hop, flamenco, Cirque techniques, tap - as well as bringing a new social relevance to this story.
