Hyatt Century Plaza Facing Protest

About 500 hotel workers are expected to picket tonight over working conditions.

1. About 500 hotel workers are expected to be picketing the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza tonight from 4:45-6:45 p.m. Union officials claim housekeepers are getting injured at the hotel, which is the reason for the protest. 

2. Earlier in the day, at 2 p.m., a new park is being dedicated next to the Westwood Public Library. The Westwood Gardens Park ceremony is being hosted by Councilman Paul Koretz and the Department of Recreation and Parks.

3. Gov. Jerry Brown tonight makes his first public appearance in the L.A. area since being sworn in last month. Brown will discuss the $25 billion state budget deficit at the L.A. Chamber of Commerce's 122nd annual Inaugural Dinner at the JW Marriott at L.A. Live. He is expected to repeat calls to extend tax hikes adopted in 2009 in a special election, end redevelopment agencies and make budget cuts.

4. Four days before Lindsay Lohan allegedly left a Venice jewelry store with an expensive necklace she has since been charged with stealing, she tried walking out of the same store with a diamond earring, TMZ.com reports today. Citing a police report, TMZ says that on Jan. 18 Lohan tried on a pair of diamond earrings , removed one, left the other on and started to leave removing the earring when stopped. The site says the scenario is similar to when Lohan left with the necklace.
