Abraham Lincoln Remembrance Returns

Former Mayor Richard Riordan will read the Gettysburg Address.

1. The 19th annual Abraham Lincoln Remembrance will be held Saturday at the Los Angeles National Cemetery in Westwood, with former Mayor Richard Riordan reciting the Gettysburg Address. Students from Birmingham and Lincoln high schools will also participate in the program marking the 202nd anniversary of the birth of the 16th president. Last year's Zombie Prom sold out in advance, with almost the entire audience decked out in their bloody best. Proceeds benefit the UCLA Brain Research Institute. Festivities begin at 8 p.m. in the Palm Court Ballroom in the Alexandria Hotel, 501 S. Spring Street.

3. The Los Angeles City Council will meet today at 10 a.m. Agenda items include issuance of a permit for the NBA All-Star Game and granting DWP permission to continue infrastructure projects during street construction moratorium periods. Councilman Herb Wesson will lead a commemoration of African-American Heritage Month, featuring an exhibit honoring black city employees in leadership positions.
