Students Get Schooled in Math and Science

Engineers Week, hosted by Raytheon, is intended to stimulate students to learn more about the subjects.

Local middle schoolers including participants of the UCLA Math Circle headed to El Segundo on Monday for the start of Engineers Week, hosted by Raytheon. The event also featured a math competition in which students competed for a medallion.

More than 200 students from area middle and elementary schools took part in the program, which was held at the Raytheon's Space and Airborne Systems facility. Engineers for the defense contractor and aerospace corporation gave interactive demonstrations as well. Presentations touched on the polar ice caps and , among other topics.

Engineers Week is an effort to stimulate students to learn more about math and science.
