Poll: Do We Live in 'Tehrangeles'?

Google Maps now labels the neighborhood between Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevard 'Tehrangeles.'

Do you call the neighborhood between Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevards Tehrangeles? Google Maps does.

Recently, a new label has appeared over the Westwood neighborhood south of Wilshire. When I first noticed this label earlier this week, I posted about it on the Westwood-Century City Patch page and asked if any other readers had noticed the new addition.

"I lived on Eastborne for years and did not notice any overtly 'Iranian'connection. Weird," posted Brian Martin.

Some felt it pigeonholed Westwood's population.

"Lots of Iranians but also a lot of other people..." posted Chris Cusack.

Others felt it was overdue.

"Oh how cool. Though I think it should cover a larger area and be written in a bigger font. It's about time," posted Hakhamanesh Mo'tarez.

Specifically, the tag is located "on the upper floor of an apartment building in the 10600 block of Kinnard Avenue, between Westholme and Hilts avenues," reports LAObserved.

A Google representative told Curbed LA that the neighborhood names on Google Maps come from several sources, "including the U.S. Census Bureau and commercial data providers."

There's a Persian Square street sign on Westwood Boulevard and Wilkins, and you probably have at least one favorite Persian restaurant that's within walking distance of your home. But Westwood and several other Westside neighborhoods are home to many Iranian-Americans. So what do you think of the name 'Tehrangeles' for this specific neighborhood? Vote in the poll below and tell me what you think in the comments.
