UCLA Medical Center Ranked Best in L.A.

 1. Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center has been ranked the No. 1 hospital in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, and its Santa Monica–UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital has been ranked No. 5, in U.S. News & World Report's first-ever "Best Hospitals" metro area rankings.

2. Also at UCLA today, elite athletes and business leaders make the case for industrial hemp farming in the U.S. at the event Hemp for Performance, Profit and the Planet. The event runs from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Broad Art Center.

3. Napa Valley Grille presents a Trefethen Family Vineyards Wine Dinner, a four-course wine pairing menu, tonight from 6:30-9 p.m. Reservations are necessary. 1100 Glendon Ave. in Westwood.

4. The longtime managing director of the L-A Philharmonic and general director of the Hollywood Bowl will be memorialized today. At a 1 p.m. ceremony, the city will name the intersection of First Street and Grand Avenue Ernest Fleischmann Square in honor of Fleischmann who died June 13 of last year. At 8 p.m., the philharmonic will present a tribute performance at Walt Disney Concert Hall featuring conductor laureate Esa Pekka Salonen and composer Pierre Boulez.
