The Hammer Museum was founded in 1990 by Occidental Petroleum chairman Armand Hammer. UCLA took over management a few years later. Today, the museum's exhibitions present contemporary and historical work in all media of the visual arts as well as a diverse lineup of lectures and cultural programming. The Billy Wilder Theater, located off the museum's courtyard, hosts screenings from the UCLA Film and Television Archive.
