West L.A. Little League All-Stars Beat Ladera

Matt Thomas homers twice in the winner's bracket of the District 25 Tournament.

Matt Thomas hit two home runs, Alex Mills also homered and closer Andrew Moritz pitched two scoreless innings in relief as West Los Angeles' 11 & 12-year-old all-stars beat rival Ladera 12-8 in a Little League Baseball District 25 winner's bracket final Wednesday at Bill Botts Field in Culver City.

Also contributing to West LA's victory were Isaac Gadinsky, Will Bucksbaum, Matt Thomas, Daniel Schreier, Leo Bucksbaum, Sam Saferstein, Justin Hirschberg, Luke Goldstein, Jimmy Douglas, Jake Georgeff, Remy Meteigner and Noah Kingsdale.

Thomas has now smacked five home runs in three tournament games. The teams will meet again Saturday at 11 a.m. and if West LA wins, it clinches the tournament championship. If Ladera wins, the teams will play a decisive game at 5 p.m. Monday at Bill Botts Field.

On Thursday, Ladera beat Culver City in the loser's bracket final to earn the rematch with West LA.  

In the 10-11 Division, West LA lost to Santa Monica East 7-4 in the finals of the winner's bracket Thursday in Ladera Heights and dropped to the loser's bracket, where it will play Monday at 6 p.m. against the winner of Sunday's semifinal between Ladera and Malibu.

West LA had demolished its first three playoff opponents by a combined score of 62-1. If West LA prevails Monday it would need to beat Santa Monica East on Tuesday and Wednesday (both games at 6 p.m.) to win the championship.

In the 9-10 Division, West LA lost to Santa Monica West 11-3 Tuesday in the semifinals of the winner's bracket and faces elimination Sunday when it plays the winner of Saturday's loser's bracket game between Santa Monica East and City of Angels.

In the Junior Division (ages 13-14), West LA beat Culver Marina 6-4 on Thursday and will play Culver City or North Venice at noon Saturday in Culver City in the finals of the winner's bracket.

The championship game is Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., with another game Thursday at the same time if the winner's bracket champion loses Wednesday's game.
