Three UCLA Players Selected in NFL Draft

Akeem Ayers and Rahim Moore go in second round; David Carter goes in sixth.

Three football players were among the 254 players selected in the 2011 National Football League draft, which was staged Thursday through Saturday at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

The first Bruins player chosen was Akeem Ayers, a 6' 3," 255-pound outside linebacker, who was picked seventh in the second round (39th overall) by the Tennessee Titans on Friday.

One of Ayers' strengths is speed off the edge and he is versatile enough to flourish in either a 4-3 or 3-4 formation. Ayers, a high school star at Verbum Dei in Watts, had 45 solo tackles, 23 assists and two interceptions as a junior last season. He was projected as a mid-first round pick.

Six picks later in the second round, 6' 0," 202-pound free safety Rahim Moore was chosen 45th overall by the Denver Broncos. He could make an immediate impact in the secondary. As a junior in 2010, the LA product had 51 solo tackles and 26 assists with one interception. Moore was projected as a late first round pick. 

The last Bruins player chosen was David Carter, a 6' 5," 301-pound defensive tackle, who was the 19th pick in the sixth round round (181st overall) by the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday. The senior from started all 12 games, recording 27 solo tackles, 14 assists and four sacks last fall.

Quarterback Cam Newton, who led to the BCS national championship in January, was drafted No. 1 overall by the Carolina Panthers.
