Serena Williams Upset at Australian Open

The tennis star loses to 29th-seed Sloane Stephens.

Fifteen-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams won't be playing in the finals of the Australian Open. A loss Wednesday against Sloane Stephens takes the powerhouse out of the tournament.

Sloan's 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory ensures the 29th-seeded player a place in the semifinals, according to a report by the Washington Post.

The match marks the first loss for Williams, who owns a condo in Westwood, since Aug. 17, the Post reported.

Williams and Stephens were teammates in last year's Fed Cup and have spent time together in L.A., where Stephens also lives, according to the New York Times, which noted they first played against one another less than a month ago.
