Marymount Volleyball Tops CIF Rankings

The Sailors hold the No. 1 position in the Southern Section Division 1A poll.

The CIF Southern Section has released this week's girls volleyball polls and it's no surprise that Marymount High School remains at the top of the Division 1A rankings.

The poll was voted on, coordinated and finalized by the CIF Southern Section Girls Volleyball Coaches Advisory Committee. The polls will be updated every week throughout the season.

The defending champion Sailors have started the season impressively. After a strong showing at the Durango Tournament in Las Vegas, they swept perennial power Mira Costa last Thursday in Manhattan Beach.

There are no changes in the top five this week in the Division 1A poll. Marymount is No. 1, followed by Corona del Mar, Laguna Beach, Vista Murrieta and Valencia. Notre Dame Academy, Marymount's Sunshine League rival, moved up one spot from No. 7 to No. 6. El Dorado is seventh, followed by Saugus, Anaheim Canyon and Yucaipa. Walnut and Xavier Prep, which lost to Marymount in Las Vegas, are listed as "others under consideration," just outside the Top 10.

Los Alamitos, the preseason favorite in Division 1AA, held its No. 1 position atop that division, followed by Dos Pueblos. Edison jumped into the No. 3 spot, Newport Harbor is fourth and Mira Costa is fifth.
