Regents Ask UCLA To Buy Hotel, Not Build

The UC Regents want the university to explore purchasing an existing hotel instead of building a new one.

UCLA has plans to build a hotel and conference center in Westwood to house guests of the university and academic conventions, but the California Board of Regents is skeptical.

The Los Angeles Business Journal (subscription required) and Curbed LA report the UC Regents have asked the university to explore buying and converting an existing Westwood hotel.

Local hotels are not happy about the proposed UCLA hotel because in the Westwood market.

With a $150 million budget, Curbed LA says UCLA's options are somewhat limited. Some of the smaller hotels in the village might not have space needed to build a conference center.
