LAUSD Board Considers LGBT, Education Anti-Bullying Policy

The resolution on the table willl "[promote] positive images of LGBT people and making age-appropriate LGBT curriculum available in elementary and secondary schools."

The LAUSD board is considering a resolution that will include "positive images" of LGBT people in curriculum, and encourage staff to step in should they observe instances of harrassment, KTLA reports.

The material would be included in elementary and secondary school curricula, according to the resolution. The resolution is part of an effort to curb harrassment and bullying in schools. An openly gay middle school student in Oxnard was shot and killed in 2008.

"Every single person has value and every single person has dignity regardless of the color of their skin, regardless of their religion or their political orientation or their sexual orientation," LAUSD Superintendent John Deasy told KTLA.
