IRIS Nights Lecture Series with Mark Fisher

Gravity-Inspired Photography: Images from a Vertical World

Mark Fisher got his start in the world of outdoor adventure and photography during high school.  It was an inspiring high school class that fueled his love for photography but his interest in outdoor adventure began during his regular midnight rappels off of multi-story parking garages. Since then, Mark has developed these two passions into a career as an internationally recognized photographer specializing in outdoor adventure sports.  As an athlete himself, Fisher is able to merge his mountain skills with his photography to create unique, decisive and powerful images that embody the essence of the mountain world and the people interacting within that environment.

Fisher's lecture will focus on action sports images, especially skiing, from personal projects and professional assignments throughout Alaska, North America, and the Himalayas, among other locales.  Whether it's hanging from a Helicopter in the middle of winter in remote Alaska or skiing from 25,000 feet in the Himalayas, he will not only highlight the spirit of adventure, but also the story behind the shot.  In addition to still imagery, Fisher will highlight the rapidly evolving world of DSLR videography with a clip from his recent expedition to 8014meter Mt. Shishapangma in Tibet.
