The Everglades in Black-and-White
Clyde Butcher has spent the last 25 years of his photographic career capturing the unique, primeval environment of the Everglades on large format film. He will share the journey that brought his life from a career in architecture to that of landscape photographer. Butcher's photographs explore his personal relationship with the environment. For more than 40 years, he has captured his images with 8"x 10" and 11"x 14" view cameras. The lecture will include his adventures photographing the wilds of the Everglades ecosystem.

Butcher has received the Artist Hall of Fame Award, the highest honor conferred upon a private citizen by the State of Florida. He also received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the North American Nature Photography Association and was named the 2005 Humanitarian of the Year by International University. He has also received the Heartland Community Service Award from the State of Florida his efforts to educate Floridians about their state's natural beauty. The Sierra Club honored Butcher with the Ansel Adams Conservation Award, which is given to a photographer whose work has contributed to the public awareness of the environment.
