City Council to Hold Hearing on Westwood Village BID
The City Council will hear potential protests and support for a Business Improvement District in the Village area.
The City Council will hold a public hearing Tuesday morning on whether Westwood Village property owners should form a Business Improvement District (BID).
"There is an opportunity to protest the BID," said Steve Sann, chair of the Westwood Community Council and a restaurateur in the BID area. "They have to be given their day in court."
The hearing is among the final steps in the process. If approved, the BID governing council would assess property owners in the Village area fees that would then be used to enhance the upkeep of the neighborhood, including cleaning sidewalks, trimming trees, removing trash and even putting up holiday decorations.

"It's very focused to providing services the city can't provide," Sann said, citing the recent budget problems faced by the city of Los Angeles.
Paul Neuman, a spokesman for L.A. City Councilman Paul Koretz, emailed a statement to Patch saying that Koretz supported the BID.

"As far as the council member's position regarding this BID effort he has been supporting community efforts throughout his time in the L.A. City Council," Neuman wrote, adding that Koretz took office in 2009. Koretz represents Council District 5, which includes Westwood.
The City Council meeting begins at 10 a.m. in the John Ferraro Council Chamber, Room at Los Angeles City Hall, 200 North Spring Street. The hearing for the BID will be the first item.
