Website Draws Villaraigosa, JMB Realty and Westside Subway Extension Link

Is JMB Realty, which donates to L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's political efforts, slated to make money off the Westside Subway Extension's plans to tunnel under Beverly Hills High School?

The website of , the conservative blogger and political commentator who died in March, has published an article that draws an alleged connection between Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, building contractor JMB Realty and plans to as part of the Westside Subway Extension.

Should the Metropolitan Transportation Authority go through with plans to run the subway under BHHS, it would have to purchase land from JMB Realty to reach a stop in Century City, according to the website. Villaraigosa chairs the Metro Board of Directors, the body tasked with approving the final Westside Subway Extension route.

The article on breitbart.com reads:

JMB Realty owns the land on which the local subway station, which necessitates the tunnel, would be built. They would receive $38.7 million for a small piece of land on a larger tract; the entire tract was assessed at just $18.8 million in 2011. The station itself should net JMB hundreds of millions of additional dollars. According to the Los Angeles Times, JMB has given significant amounts of cash to Villaraigosa, and has even hosted a fundraiser for Villaraigosa. Villaraigosa largely controls the decision-making process as to the location of the station—he can stack the Metro board with four members out of a total of 13.

Also mentioned in the article is We Do Our Part LA, which the website claims is being funded by JMB Realty. We Do Our Part LA has in support of the planned subway route that calls for tunneling under BHHS.

This tripe was debunked after the Beverly Hills Courier posted something similar a few days ago. Doesn't anyone do fact checking anymore? http://la.streetsblog.org/2012/05/15/fact-check-there-is-no-38-7-million-payout-to-jmb-realty-in-westside-subway-plans/ Also, among the many inaccuracies in the Breitbart article, this one jumps out as particularly odd: "So where is the money coming from? Apparently, Metro decided to do away with stations and links that largely serve LA’s black community." The only one that got dropped from the Westside extention project was Wilshire/Crenshaw, which got tossed out early on because it just didn't have the boarding projections to warrent a stop. And last time I checked, Windsor Square was not really a "black community".

Everyone needs a lesson in math! When you read the information in the Westside Subway EIR correctly the difference between the station by the Hotel and the vacant JMB property is $38.7 million. Actually the cost is higher for the station by the Hotel. Here is a link to an accurate report. http://la.streetsblog.org/2012/05/15/fact-check-there-is-no-38-7-million-pa yout-to-jmb-realty-in-westside-subway-plans/
