Rep. Karen Bass Appointed to House Judiciary Committee

Congresswoman Karen Bass’s (D-Culver City) appointment was announced Friday. She’ll also continue to serve on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

Rep. Karen Bass (D-Culver City), who also represents Westwood in the 33rdCongressional District, was selected to serve on the Judiciary Committee in the United States House of Representatives, Friday.

Following the announcement Bass issued the following statement:

I’m honored to be chosen to serve on the prestigious House Judiciary Committee and grateful to Leader [Nancy] Pelosi and my Democratic colleagues for giving me this honor. As a lifelong advocate for justice and civil rights, I enthusiastically accept this appointment. During my first term in Congress, I have focused on a number of policy areas that fall under the jurisdiction of the Judiciary Committee and are important to the lives of my constituents - including intellectual property protection, preventing human trafficking, improving child and family courts and immigration reform. I also look to be a strong voice for the economic interests of my constituents, particularly those related to the entertainment industry, which supports thousands of jobs across my District.

In addition to her new role, Bass will continue to serve on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where, according to a statement from her office, “she will continue her outspoken advocacy for human rights and improving the United States’ relationship with Africa.
