Rep. Karen Bass Announces Lottery, Essay Contest for Free Obama Inauguration Tickets

Congresswoman Karen Bass (D-CA) announces her office will distribute free tickets to attend President Barack Obama’s Jan. 21 inauguration.

Want to snag a pair of free tickets to President Barack Obama’s inauguration on Jan. 21?

Congresswoman Karen Bass is providing her constituents with the opportunity to do just that by either participating in a lottery or a video essay contest explaining how President Obama has impacted their life or community and how they’d like to see his administration move our country forward over the next four years.

In announcing the competition, Congresswoman Bass said, "Back in 2009, I was honored to attend the President’s Inauguration and let me tell you—it was one of the most amazing, hopeful and inspirational events I had experienced. Now as a member of Congress, I have the opportunity to help others from my District experience this historic event and show their support for all the President has accomplished in his first term and what we will be working for during his second term. I look forward to helping as many people as possible in my District get the opportunity to share in this experience."

If you choose to go the video essay route, you could win two seated tickets to view the inauguration, in addition to a meal with Congresswoman Bass and of various sites throughout Washington DC.

The essays and videos will be posted online and constituents will be allowed to vote on the best entry.

Constituents interested in standing-only tickets to view the Inauguration from the Capitol grounds can visit Congresswoman Bass’ website and enter their name into a lottery. Lottery winners will be chosen at random until all tickets have been dispensed.

Essay and lottery winners will be notified of their selection on Jan. 4

The deadline to participate in both contests is Dec. 28
