CenterCal to Host 3rd Waterfront Workshop

CenterCal Properties will host its third workshop Thursday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center.

CenterCal Properties and the city of Redondo Beach will host a workshop Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center as part of an ongoing series of public meetings focused on the revitalization of the Redondo Beach waterfront.

Last week, the Redondo Beach City Council voted unanimously to negotiate exclusively with CenterCal to develop the 15 acres of waterfront property, including the Redondo Beach Pier and Pier Plaza, International Boardwalk and the Redondo Beach Marina.

The vote made the city's partnership with CenterCal official. The agreement called for exclusivity in negotiations, an initial deposit from CenterCal to the city to cover the city's third-party costs and lays out a "very transparent and clear road map" for the development, according to Harbor, Business and Transit director Pete Carmichael.

Thursday's workshop "will be an opportunity to review the Waterfront and provide your site planning ideas," according to a notice on the city's website. Previous workshops asked residents for their overall vision for the site.

In addition to Thursday's meeting, CenterCal will host two other site planning workshops at the Performing Arts Center. The first is scheduled for Jan. 31 from 6-8 p.m., and the second will take place Feb. 23 from 10 a.m. until noon.

The Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center is located at 1935 Manhattan Beach Blvd.

This is a move in the right direction, but 6 is still a bit early. People are commuting from their jobs, plus they need to eat after a long work day. I highly recommend that you move this to 7 pm to accommodate the working resident here in Redondo Beach.

Hi Diane, I believe that's why they've also scheduled some sessions for Saturday mornings.

Great workshop! Lots of residents attended and there were lots of great ideas. So far CenterCal seems genuinely committed to quality development that residents will be proud of. I am keeping my fingers crossed that they stay true to their commitment.

Glad to hear! I couldn't clone myself, so I ended up going to the planning commission hearing on the Torrance Boulevard car wash proposal.
