BID Subcommittee to Revisit Farmers Market Management Issue

Steve Whipple, the longtime Westwood Village market manager, and market operator Raw Inspiration are vying for the management spot.

A Westwood Business Improvement District (BID) subcommittee on Thursday will again take up the issue of new farmers market management in Westwood Village.

Time constraints at last week's Westwood Village Improvement Association (WVIA) Board of Directors meeting led to the board's decision to continue the conversation during Thursday's District Issues Committee meeting.

Committee members will meet at 8:30 a.m. at 10880 Wilshire Blvd.

The board met last week to consider the subcommittee's initial recommendation that market operator Raw Inspiration take over the Westwood Village Farmers Market, replacing longtime manager Steve Whipple.

Whipple has operated the Westwood Village market for the past five years. Raw Inspiration currently runs 23 markets throughout Los Angeles, including those in Brentwood, Century City and Pacific Palisades.

Raw Inspiration responded to a Request for Proposal (RFP) shortly after the WVIA solicited responses from farmers market managers in May. Whipple chose not to respond.

The issue will be brought before the full board at the group's next scheduled monthly meeting at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 18 at Skylight Gardens, 1139 Glendon Ave.
