Assemblyman Mike Feuer officially announced Tuesday his candidacy for city attorney of Los Angeles in March 2013.

Feuer, who represents a district that includes Hollywood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Westwood and Century City to raise money for his candidacy in September.

Attorney Gregory Smith, who has represented Los Angeles police officers and firefighters in lawsuits against the city, is also running for the office.

City Attorney Carmen Trutanich announced his candidacy for Los Angeles County district attorney last week.

If elected as the city's top prosecutor, Feuer said he would work to provide "secure neighborhoods, innovative solutions to our toughest problems, and a city government that inspires confidence and trust."

He said he would also focus on gang prevention.

"I'll do all I can to bring energy, vision and integrity to the job," he said.

Feuer reported raising $345,000 through Dec. 31. Smith gave his campaign $100,000 of his own money.

Feuer was on the Los Angeles City Council from 1995-2001, when he lost a race for city attorney to Rocky Delgadillo.

He was elected in 2006 to the Assembly, where he chairs the Assembly Judiciary Committee and is the Democrats' policy leader in the lower house.

Feuer recently introduced two bills in the Assembly aimed at accelerating funding for Los Angeles County transit projects. One bill would extend the length of the Measure R half-cent sales tax beyond its current 30-year life-span, and the other would add urban rail transit projects to the list of development types eligible to receive special legal protection from state environmental review challenges.

Feuer's professional origins are as a lawyer providing pro bono legal assistance to elderly and disabled clients, according to his website.

At one time, I would have said, "Hurray," but no more. It is sad to see a good man turn into a corrupt politician. He's been a champion of the corrupt CRA/LA, while doing nothing at all to help his constituents as the CRA steals millions of dollars. The CRA destroyed more affordable housing than it ever constructed. Where was Feuer when CIM Group evicted all the low income people from the St. Francis Hotel on Hollywood? Where was Feuer when CRA-CIM destroyed the small businesses on the 1700 block of North Western and then allowing the CRA to pay CIM Group $17.3 M for turning its property into a haven for drug addicts, prostitutes, gang bangers who terrorized neighbors? Where was Feuer when the city gave his buddy billionaire Eli Broad $52 Million for a garage next to Eli's art museum while the kids in Feuer's district did not get a park as it was too expensive? Where was Feuer when 2 acre Fire station 82 was downsized by 75% to 1/2 acre and palced in gridlock hell at the Hollywood Blvd - 101 Freeway intersection? Gracteii and Labonge siad it was too expensive to build a full fire station, yet they found the loot to give $52 M to Eli. Where was Feuer to protect his constituents in the Hills from burning death? No where, least his disturb the CRA/LA corrupt doling out of tax dollars. Feuer should change his name to Mazle Dina so we can see the true nature of the man who is running. It is a sad day when the just have fallen so low.
