Westwood Police Blotter: Tips To Prevent Burglaries

Below is a round-up of local crime reported between Jan. 19-30 as provided by LAPD Senior Lead Officer Christopher Ragsdale.

Detectives have provided these tips to prevent burglaries and break-ins:

THE LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT IS MAKING EVERY EFFORT TO COMBAT RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES. SINCE COMMUNITY AWARENESS IS THE KEY TO PREVENTION WE NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE:HOME SECURITY TIPS:LOCK ALL DOORS AND WINDOWS, INCLUDING REAR AND GARAGE DOORS, BEFORE LEAVING THE RESIDENCE.ENSURE THAT ALL DOORS AND WINDOWS INCLUDING SLIDING GLASS DOORS HAVE STRONG, WORKING LOCKS.IF YOUR RESIDENCE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ALARM SYSTEM, ENSURE THAT IT HAS APPROPRIATE COVERAGE FOR YOUR SECURITY NEEDS.ENSURE THAT ALL WINDOWS AND DOORS ARE ALARMED. AND THE MASTER BEDROOM AND HALLWAYS HAVE MOTION SENSORS DETECTORS.ACTIVATE YOUR ALARM WHEN EVER YOU LEAVE YOUR RESIDENCE.ENSURE THAT YOUR VIDEO SURVEILANCE SYSTEM IS IN GOOD WORKING ORDER.RECORD THE SERIAL NUMBERS OF YOUR ELECTRONIC AND COMPUTER EQUIPMENT, AND KEEP RECORDS IN A SECURE LOCATION.KEEP RECORDS AND PHOTOS OF NON-SERIALIZED VALUABLES.KEEP YOUR PROPERTY WELL-LIT DURING THE EVENING AND EARLY MORNING HOURS.IF YOU OBSERVE SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY, CONTACT POLICE IMMEDIATELY BY CALLING 911 (EMERGENCY) OR 877-ASK-LAPD (877-275-5273) (NON-EMERGENCY).OBTAIN A DESCRIPTION OF THE SUSPECT(S)' PHYSICAL APPEARANCE, ACTIONS, AND ANY VEHICLE DESCRIPTIONS, INCLUDING LICENSE PLATE NUMBERS. DO NOT CONFRONT SUSPICIOUS INDIVIDUALS.

Residential Burglaries:

  • Jan. 19. 10400 block Lindbrook Drive. Between 12-6 a.m., suspect(s) used garage remote to open garage door, removed a bicycle and beer.
  • Jan. 29. 400 block Veteran Ave. Between 10:20 a.m.-3:10 p.m., suspect(s) forced the apartment rear door, removed jewelry and electronics.
  • Jan. 21-28. 10100 block Angelo View Drive. Suspect(s) entered residence by unknown means, removed jewelry, a laptop, and dress.
  • Jan. 21-24. 500 block Veteran Ave. Suspects smashed the rear window and removed unknown property.

  • Jan. 28-29. 500 block Kelton Ave. Between 11 p.m.-9:45 a.m, a 2009 Honda Civic was missing from a garage.

Burglary Theft from Motor Vehicle:

  • Jan. 28-29. Santa Monica/Beverly Glen. Between 8 p.m.-8 a.m., medical equipment went missing from a car.
  • Jan. 28. 500 block Kelton Ave. Between 9:30-9:45 a.m., garage remote, keys
  • Jan. 30. 1300 block Sepulveda Blvd. Around 8:30 a.m., a purse, cash and ID.
  • Jan. 21. Westwood/Massachusetts. 7-11:30 p.m. Cell phone, money.
  • Jan. 23. 10900 block Rochester Ave. 1-4 p.m. iPod.
  • Jan. 28. 1500 block Benedict Cyn. 9:30 p.m.-9 a.m. Rear license plate.
  • Jan. 22. 1200 block Beverly Glen. GPS.
  • Jan. 24. 1400 block Selby Ave. 4:30 p.m.-7:30 a.m. Camera.
