Montemalaga Drive Closed After Car Fire

A single-vehicle collision results in the closure of Montemalaga Drive in Rancho Palos Verdes.

Montemalaga Drive was temporarily closed between the border of Rancho Palos Verdes and Palos Verdes Estates to the west and Silver Spur Road to the east Tuesday afternoon due to a single-car crash, according to a notice sent by the city of Rancho Palos Verdes.

The collision, which occurred at about 2:40 p.m., resulted in a vehicle fire, according to city staff.

According to Patch reader Lindsey Martin, who said she lives near the scene of the collision, a black Mercedes hit a cement post in front of a home and flipped over, catching fire.

"Some Edison workers nearby ran to the burning car and used a shovel to break the window and pull the driver out," she wrote. "Less than a minute later, the car was completely in flames."

Martin also said she saw "several small explosions" before Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel arrived at the scene.

No fatalities were reported.

You men were all heros! That woman would have died if it weren't for all of you, that was very brave since you could have been injured by the fire as well. God bless you all for your courage!

The speeding has been going on for the last 25+ years. This is nothing new. People just need to SLOW DOWN.
