Heavy Traffic Expected Monday for Obama's Westside Visit

Some details about the president's plans have been released.

Westside residents have been advised about heavy traffic Monday as President Obama travels through Westwood to evening fundraisers in West Hollywood.

The president is scheduled to land at LAX at 4:40 p.m. and will be transported to The House of Blues in West Hollywood. City Councilman Bill Rosendahl told Westside residents to expect heavy traffic on Sunset Boulevard from Barrington into West Hollywood. Three Marine helicopters were seen flying in that general route Friday, according to City News Service.

President Obama will then travel to Fig & Olive restaurant on Melrose Place at La Cienega.

Los Angeles City Councilmen Paul Koretz (5th District) and Bill Rosendahl (11th District) have both sent out press releases stating that La Cienega will be shut down entirely from 7:15 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Koretz and Rosendahl also say that “streets otherwise will be closed on a rolling basis as necessary to ensure safe travel for the president.”

Obama will be staying overnight, but the exact location is not known. Tuesday morning, he will be traveling through Beverly Hills and Westwood to get to LAX, so expect more street closures. San Vicente Boulevard between Santa Monica Boulevard and Melrose Avenue
will be closed from 6 a.m. Monday until noon Tuesday.

Rosendahl said the Secret Service makes the final call about street
closures and the president's motorcade route.

"It is my hope they have learned from previous visits and understand that Angelenos already face gridlock on a daily basis and will not tolerate lengthy delays due to the President's visit,'' Rosendahl told City News Service.
