Have Coffee With Altadena’s Captain This Afternoon

Meet the Altadena Sheriff’s Station captain and ask him questions over coffee. What do you want to know?

The community is invited to meet Altadena Sheriff’s Station Captain John Benedict at Starbuck's Coffee Shop at 1830 East Washington Blvd. in Pasadena from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.

All are welcome to discuss community issues, learn about recent crime trends, how to start a Neighborhood Watch Program, or just say hello!

One of the save altadena petitioners came around our neighborhood, mentioning the guns/ammo threat. But I believe Ivan is right - probably not true. Go to Walmart.com - you can buy some accessories, but no actual firearms or ammo - "in stores only". Any store that did sell firearms would have to have a FFL - Federal Firearms License. I haven't found anything that supports the rumor.

Don't give into the semi-hysteria being created by 1 of 2 anti Wal mart groups in town...... unless you're part of 1 of those 2 groups and trying to further stir the pot by making this a community safety issue.

I wish I could buy 22 ammo at the new Walmart when I'm going to range.

Well, yeah the deputies participate. More deputies up here than CHP which is why one may receive a citation from them. BTW ~ there's only one sheriff. The rest are deputies of differing rank.

Thanks, All. I'm not speaking out of hysteria, just voicing a concern. From our home, we frequently hear what sound like gunshots. And, yes, we can differentiate firecrackers from gunshots. :-) I don't particularly want to have more guns coming into our family neighborhoods, being used by a criminal element, or by inexperienced people fearful for their safety from that element. Again, thanks to those more knowledgeable than I for sharing your observations. I appreciate your input, and feel a sense of relief.
