DUI Checkpoint Planned in Marina del Rey

Police will establish safety checkpoint in an effort to reduce traffic fatalities.

Police will be conducting DUI checks at Lincoln Boulevard and Maxella Avenue on Friday from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday.

A total of 2,168 people were arrested in Los Angeles County from Dec. 14, 2012 to Jan. 1 as part of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department “Avoid the 100” anti-DUI campaign.

The 100 refers to the the 100 law enforcement agencies that took part in the countywide effort. During the same time period last year, 2,433 people were arrested from driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The next DUI checkpoints will be conducted on Super Bowl Sunday in February and St. Patrick’s Day in March.

Funding for these checkpoints is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Checkpoints on Friday will also be set up on Sunset Boulevard and Orange Grove Avenue in Hollywood and Imperial Highway and San Pedro Street in South Los Angeles.
