Authorities ID Man Killed on 405 Wednesday Morning

The investigation tied up traffic on the Westside for hours.

The pedestrian killed today on the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway at Getty Center Drive was identified as Scott Belkin, 52, of Los Angeles.

The accident prompted the closure of three northbound lanes while authorities investigated the death, tying traffic up for hours.

Officers were sent to the area at 5:38 a.m. after Belkin was found dead at the location, the California Highway Patrol reported.

It was unclear why Belkin was walking on the freeway, according to the CHP.

Traffic was jammed through the Sepulveda Pass until after noon, with vehicles backed up well south of the junction with the Santa Monica (10) Freeway and some streets gridlocked near major off-ramps.

The investigation was completed shortly before noon, when the closed lanes were reopened, according to the CHP.
