As you start to put away your clothes from the hotter months and break out your cold-weather wardrobe, you may be contemplating other modes of transportation as the weather gets colder and if you’re putting away your bike and walking shoes. This is indeed the perfect time to explore alternative ways to get to work.

Carpool and vanpool programs are a perfect transportation alternative to continue to help reduce traffic congestion in Century City. You might also consider utilizing the city’s Metro transit or Big Blue Bus system as another great alternative. What’s more, these options will continue to help you accumulate points as you log your commute on the Commute90067 website.

With the turn in weather, it is inevitable that traffic will get worse as leaves fall off the trees and the roads become wetter. Be sure that no matter how you get to work, you allot yourself some additional commute time so that you aren’t late and so you stay safe on the road.

If you’re part of a carpool, communicate with your fellow carpool members about an earlier pickup time. If taking the bus, check the transit schedules and catch an earlier bus. Nothing is worse than starting off your day behind schedule!

If you bike year-round, also be sure to make adjustments to the new weather and road conditions. Please practice these safety tips while peddling the roadways:

Wear or install more lights on your bike

With the day getting darker earlier after daylight savings, it’s important to add another light to your bike or helmet so cars can see you and so you can see the road more clearly.

Be Aware

Roads become darker, wetter, and filled with leaves during the autumn and winter months. It is important to monitor road conditions more carefully this time of year to avoid accidents and injuries.

Layer up

As temperatures drop, wearing caps, gloves and a jacket can protect you from the elements. Remember to button or zip up your jacket and tuck in your pants to avoid getting your clothing caught on the bike.

Whatever mode of transportation you use to get to work and home this season, stay safe and enjoy the ride. Please follow Commute 90067 on Twitter @Commute90067 for current road conditions, Century City news and daily tips.
