Simple Ways to Keep Your Home Organized

Keeping your home organized will save you time and money. These 5 simple tips will help you keep your home in order.

Keeping your home organized can seem like a daunting task. Many people say to me, "I just don't have time to get organized". The reality is, everyone has the time to get organized and being more organized will actually save you time in the future. No more time spent searching for your keys or sunglasses! Below are 5 simple tips that will help you keep your home organized.

1. Keep your wardrobe manageable. The more organized your closet, the easier it will be to see what you have and find what you need. Don't overfill your closet- if you have enough room for 40 hanging items then you should only have 40 hanging items. Keep the number manageable by giving away 1 item for every item you purchase. Go through your closet every 6 months. If you haven't worn it in 6 months, donate it. If it doesn't fit, donate it.

2. Assign a home for all your items. Your sunglasses belong in your sunglasses case in your purse. Your keys belong on the hook by the door. Your shoes belong on your shoe rack. Never waste time looking for things again. After using your items place them back in their designated home. Don't put it down, put it away!

3. If it's broken, ripped or unusable - get rid of it. If you have something that has been broken for the past 6 months get rid of it. If it's not important enough to get fixed immediately then you don't need it. If you won't wear a sweater with a rip in it, but you won't take the time to fix it, then it's just taking up valuable space!

4. Eliminate the junk mail. Junk mail is just that - junk! It fills your mailbox, clutters your home and can become overwhelming if not handled immediately. Go online to www.optoutprescreen.com to stop receiving credit card offers and other junk mail for 5 years. For the junk mail that still makes it into your mailbox, don't allow it to become clutter in your home. Look through it immediately and either shred it or recycle it.

5. Know what you have and avoid duplicate purchases. Take inventory of what you have in your home on a consistent basis to avoid purchasing duplicate items. Keep items in their assigned homes so you know where to find them when you need them.
