Rideshare Week Kicks Off in Century City

Commute 90067 will hold a Rideshare Day event Thursday.

Carpooling this week could pay off for some Century City commuters.

Commute 90067 will reward some drivers for sharing their rides as part of the statewide Rideshare Week 2012, which runs Oct. 1-5.

Drivers who log their commutes Oct. 1-5 on commute90067.org will be entered in a daily drawing to win $40 gift cards to Westfield Century City stores, like AMC Theatres, Yogurtland, and H&M.

The commuter who logs the most points for carpooling, vanpooling, biking, using public transportation, driving during off-peak hours, and walking will be awarded a $200 gift card to local restaurants and stores. A new bike will also be given to the commuter who earns the most points at the end of the week.

"We're trying to reduce traffic coming into and out of Century City to help the congestion and ... improve the air quality," Commute 90067 Executive Director Linda Lyles said.

Commute 90067 has helped reduce local traffic by 4 percent, Lyles said, adding she hopes the number will increase to 5 percent next year.

"The Rideshare Week is kind of a big push to let people know that we’re out there," she said.

Commute 90067 will hold a Rideshare Day event Thursday in Century City to encourage people to log their commutes. The event will be held 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the northwest corner of Avenue of the Stars and Constellation Boulevard. Prizes will include gift cards and a new bicycle.
