Weekend Planner: Robert Burns Reading, Soba Noodles Pop Up Restaurant

A selection of weekend events going on in your neighborhood.

Westwood-Century City Patch has a list of things you can do in your neighborhood and on the Westside this weekend.

  • Where:
  • When: Jan. 14 at 1:30 p.m.
  • Event: In celebration of the poet's birthday, head to the library for a performance of some of Burns' poetry by actor Joe Praml. If you're not a Burns devotee, you'll recognize some of the poems, including “O My Luve’s a Red, Red Rose,” “Flow Gently Sweet Afton,” “Tam O’Shanter,” “To a Mouse,", and “Comin’ Thro’ the Rye."
  • Cost: Free.

 

  • Where:  at
  • When: Saturday-Sunday from 5-10 p.m.
  • Event: Taste authentic artisan soba noodles made by Sonoko Sanai and Mutsuko Soma. The event also features a sake bar and has been extended to Jan. 22. Reservations are recommended.
  • Cost: Menu items range from $11-16.

 

  • Where:  at UCLA
  • When: Saturday-Sunday from 12-5 p.m.
  • Event: An exhibit about Chicano art and art spaces in Los Angeles in the 1970's. The exhibit continues until Feb. 26. For more information on the exhibit, click here.
  • Cost: Free.

 

West LA Farmers Market

  • Where: Near the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Corinth Avenue.
  • When: Sunday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Event: Local, in-season fruits and vegetables for sale next to tents filled with art, crafts, flowers and prepared foods.
  • Cost: Free.

 

  • Where: , 1310 11th St., Santa Monica
  • When: 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday
  • Event: KCRW presents a new version of Wilder’s iconic American play starring Helen Hunt. Get up close and personal with the Hunt, as most of the seating for the production will be on stage with the actors. Preview performances started Friday night. 
  • Cost: $40

 

 

  • Where: , Santa Monica.
  • When: 2 p.m. Saturday
  • Event: Team in Training, a group of runners who fundraise for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, will hit four bars in its seventh annual pub crawl to benefit the foundation. All are welcome, even non-runners!
  • Cost: $20
