Weekend Planner: Chess Expert, Occupy LA Photo Exhibit

A selection of weekend events going on in your neighborhood.

Westwood-Century City Patch has a list of things you can do in your neighborhood and on the Westside this weekend.

  • Event: Listen to chess expert Brian Glover talk about the game, and then watch him take on several players at once.
  • Cost: Free.

  • Where: UCLA's Kaufman Hall
  • When: Jan. 21 2-4 p.m.
  • Event: Photojournalist Margaret Molloy will display images from the Occupy LA camp at Los Angeles City Hall at Kaufman Hall at UCLA. The photos will be on display until the end of January.
  • Cost: Free.

  • Where: James Bridges Theater at UCLA
  • When: Saturday at 3 p.m., Sunday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Event: Watch a production of Geoffrey Nauffts' "Next Fall." All performances will be recorded to air on L.A. Theatre Works' syndicated radio theater series, which broadcasts weekly on public radio stations nationwide and streams online.
  • Cost: $15.

 

  • Where: , UCLA
  • When: Saturday, 8 p.m. 
  • Event: UCLA Live presents opera legend Kathleen Battle backed by the internationally renowned Albert McNeil Jubilee Singers of Los Angeles in an evening of traditional spirituals.
  • Cost: $20

 

  • Where:  at UCLA
  • When: Saturday-Sunday from 12-5 p.m.
  • Event: An exhibit about Chicano art and art spaces in Los Angeles in the 1970's. The exhibit continues until Feb. 26. For more information on the exhibit, click here.
  • Cost: Free.

 

West LA Farmers Market

  • Where: Near the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Corinth Avenue.
  • When: Sunday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Event: Local, in-season fruits and vegetables for sale next to tents filled with art, crafts, flowers and prepared foods.
  • Cost: Free.
