Subway Advisory Meeting Tonight

1. At 5:30 p.m. today, Metro will hold one of three Station Area Advisory Meetings to receive community input on the proposed Westwood and Century City subway stations, as part of the Westside Subway Extension project. Westwood United Methodist Church, 10497 Wilshire Blvd.

2. The West Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce hosts Westside Women's Network for women business owners tonight at Chin Chin, 11740 San Vicente Blvd. in Brentwood. The networking event runs from 6-8 p.m.

3. An L.A. County Fire Department Urban Search and Rescue team is on its way to New Zealand. It will join an international effort to find survivors in the aftermath of the 6.3-magnitude earthquake that hit Christchurch earlier this week. The L.A. County team has 74 members including firefighters, paramedics, rescue specialists, emergency doctors, structural engineers, heavy-equipment specialists,  haz-mat technicians, communications specialists and logistics experts.

4. Groundbreaking is today for a new $25-million building to house the L.A. County High School for the Arts. The school was established in 1985 and has operated on the Cal State L-A campus. The new facility will have 21 classrooms, a black box theater and outdoor stage area and will offer space for assemblies and other functions. The building is expected to be finished in September 2012.
