Police Blue Promised at Dodger Stadium

A larger police presence is expected to be on hand when the team returns home.

1. New security measures at Dodger Stadium will be announced at a news conference this morning. LAPD Chief Charlie Beck said Thursday that at the Dodgers next homestead, there will be a ``sea of blue'' as in police blue. The move follows the parking lot attack on San Francisco fan Bryan Stow, still in a coma at L-A County-USC Medical Center. The reward for information leading to a conviction in the case is $150,000 after radio host Tom Leykis added $50,000.

2. A cold storm moving down the coast brings scattered showers and mountain snow to L.A. County this morning. Moisture in the system is limited but cold air should allow showers and some snow, the National Weather Service says. The agency predicts high surf this afternoon and coastal storms through tonight. The snow level will be about 2,000 feet bringing icy areas on the I-5 corridor.

3. The rate of people dying from heart disease in L.A. County fell 41 percent between 1996 and 2007. The rate of people dying from strokes fell 39 percent. Doctor Jonathan Fielding, the county's public health director, credits that to better information about the signs of heart disease and stroke along with more effective treatment for high blood pressure and cholesterol. Despite the improvement, Fielding says the county mortality rate for heart disease still is 12 percent over the national average.
