'Kind of Funny' Author Discusses Depression

Writing and mental health is the focus of Ned Vizzini's talk.

1. Tonight at 7 p.m., author Ned Vizzini will discuss his battle with depression and overcoming suicide—a journey that became the inspiration for his novel "It's Kind of a Funny Story." The book was made into a 2010 Focus Features film starring Zach Galifianakis. Following his talk, Vizzini will participate in a Q&A on writing and mental health with UCLA psychiatrist Dr. Bowen Chung. UCLA Neuroscience Research Building Auditorium, 635 Charles Young Dr. South, Los Angeles.

2. Also at 7 p.m., the Hammer Museum will host a release party for the Autobiography of Mark Twain, which Twain insisted not be published until 100 years after his death. The event featuring Hal Holbrook is co-presented by the UC Berkeley Press and PEN Center USA. 10899 Wilshire Blvd.

4. The U.S. Transportation Department is expected to release its findings today of the Toyota sudden acceleration cases. Preliminary investigation found no wrongdoing or mechanical failures on the part of Toyota.
