Japan Earthquake Fundraisers Held Today

Head to Dodger Stadium or the Laugh Factory to donate money.

1. Fundraisers benefiting the American Red Cross Japan Tsunami Fund will be held today at Dodger Stadium and the Laugh Factory. A "drive-through'' fundraiser runs at Dodger Stadium until 7 p.m.   Monetary donations of cash and checks will be accepted. "Stand Up For Japan'' a night of standup comedy at the Laugh Factorynwill begin at 8 p.m. Scheduled performs include Kevin Nealon, Tommy Davidson, Tony Rock, Jeremy Hotz, Jackson Perdue, Paul Ogata, KT Tatara and Pau Rodriguez.

2. Can't make the fundraisers? Donations for the Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Relief efforts can be made online at www.redcrossla.org. A $10 donation can be made by texting REDCROSS to 90999. 

3. Parents of charter-school students, school leaders and supporters are lined up at L.A. Unified School District headquarters at this hour for a chance to speak at today's board meeting where decisions on operators of several charter campuses are slated to be made. The board plans to hear from 60 speakers before voting whether or not to OK operators for 10 new and three existing schools.

4. At 7 p.m., the Hammer Museum will present a lecture by documentary photographer Susan Meiselas, best known for her coverage of human rights issues in Latin America, and author William Vollmann, whose works include The Atlas, winner of the 1997 PEN Center West Award, and Rising Up and Rising Down,  a National Book Critics Circle Award in nonfiction finalist. 10899 Wilshire Blvd.

 5. Weather today: Partly cloudy with temperatures around 70. Tonight, partly cloudy with areas of low clouds and fog, and lows in the mid 50s.
