City Offers Free Christmas Tree Recycling
The annual program aims to make it easy for residents to recycle Christmas trees by providing several options.
With all the work that it takes to put up a Christmas tree, no one wants to think about taking it down. However, before you take that first ornament off the tree, think about how you intend to throw it away.
The city of Los Angeles Department of Public Works is providing several options for recycling Christmas trees. Curbside collection is available, as long as all decorative ornaments are removed. If the tree is too large to cut up for the green waste bin, put the tree next to the bin on your scheduled recycling pickup day.
The city urges residents to recycle, said Paul Gomez, a public information officer for the Department of Public Works.

“It’s obviously an important thing,” Gomez said. “We want to make sure they’re being environmentally conscious.”
Trees can also be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Jan. 8 at , in the parking lot of the Los Angeles Zoo. Griffith Park is at the junction of the Golden State (Interstate 5) and Ventura (Route 134) freeways.

Trees also may be dropped off for recycling that day at Fire Station No. 82 at 1800 N. Bronson Ave.
Before you drop off your tree, take off all ornaments, tinsel and garlands, and remove the tree from its stand.
In addition to trees, Gomez said, other items associated with the holidays can be recycled, including wrapping paper, cellophane, tissue paper and bubble wrap. Some gift bags may be recycled as well.
