AEG Funds L.A. Stadium Study

The L.A. City Council accepts $250,000 to study Anschutz's downtown football stadium proposal.

1. The Los Angeles City Council voted Wednesday to accept up to $250,000
from Anschutz Entertainment Group to fund a study of AEG's $1 billion downtown football stadium proposal despite  concerns that taking the money would taint the analysis. The council also created a working group composed of the city's top analysts to assess if the project would truly benefit the city. Separately, the council also discussed the .

2. Final ballots for the 83rd Academy Awards were mailed Wednesday to the 5,755 voting members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Ballots must be returned to PricewaterhouseCoopers by 5 p.m. Feb. 22. The Academy Awards will be held Feb. 27 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.

3. The UCLA Bruins beat crosstown rival USC in mens' basketball Wednesday night, 64-50. The win stops a four-game losing streak against the Trojans. It is UCLA's sixth win in seven games.

4. In football, UCLA announced Wednesday as part of National Signing Day the 16 incoming freshmen or transfers who have accepted offers to join the Bruins next season.
