Umami Burger Opens This Week in Westwood

Dubbed 'U-Mini,' the restaurant will be a smaller version of other Umami Burger locations.

Umami Burger will go mini this week, with the opening of a smaller location in Westwood Village.

Originally slated to open in the summer, the restaurant will open at noon Wednesday.

Dubbed "U-Mini," the 1,200 square-foot restaurant will have 45 seats and no waiters.

Located at 1131 Westwood Blvd., around the corner from 800 Degrees Pizza, the "streamlined" Umami Burger will focus on to-go food and "fine dining fast food." It will feature an "edited version" of the Umami Burger menu.

The restaurant group also plans to test new burgers at the Westwood location, in addition to new technology. Customers will be able to order via the Web and an app, and tablets will be a part of customer service. All orders will be served on environmentally-friendly compostable dinnerware.

The restaurant will take the place of shuttered Spudnick's.

"We've already had a lot of success in the neighborhood with 800 Degrees Pizzeria and we think Umami Burger will do very well here," said Adam Fleischman, owner and founder of Umami Restaurant Group, in a previous statement.
