UCLA Medical Center Ranked Best Hospital in State

U.S. News & World Report also named it the fifth-best hospital in the county, offering high marks in the fields of opthalmology and geriatrics.

Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Westwood, along with its sister campus in Santa Monica, was named Tuesday the top hospital in the state and Los Angeles area and fifth best in the country in U.S. News & World Report's 24th annual rankings of medical facilities.

The 466-bed facility earned top national rankings in a variety of specialties, including third in geriatrics, fourth in urology, fifth in ophthalmology and eighth in nephrology and rheumatology.

"We are grateful and honored to again be recognized for the outstanding work of our physicians and staff on behalf of the patients who seek care at UCLA," according to Dr. David Feinberg, president of the UCLA Health System and CEO of the UCLA Hospital System. "Our goal is to treat each patient who comes through our doors as if he or she were a member of our own family, with dignity and respect, in a compassionate and safe environment that delivers the highest-quality medical care available."

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center was ranked fourth in the state and 13th nationally by the magazine. Keck Hospital of USC was ranked eighth in California, UC Irvine Medical Center was ranked ninth and Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena was ranked 10th.

U.S. News & World Report named Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore as the best in the country, followed by Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston; the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.; and Cleveland Clinic.

The magazine surveyed 5,000 medical facilities around the country and provided rankings in 16 specialties.
